Clinical insourcing

What Is clinical insourcing

Clinical insourcing is a collaborative model where an NHS Trust retains full clinical governance while an independent provider supports additional capacity using the Trust’s existing infrastructure. Activity is delivered within NHS theatres, outpatient departments and diagnostic facilities, using NHS systems and local governance arrangements.

How It helps

  • Maximises use of existing estate and infrastructure
  • Increases elective and outpatient activity at pace
  • Reduces waiting lists and improves access to care
  • Avoids capital investment and long-term outsourcing complexity
  • Retains operational control within the Trust

What can be delivered

Delivery can range from full pathways through to individual episodes of care, supported by complete clinical and operational teams, depending on local requirements.
